Braddock takes win at Tattershall! Lincolnshire Enduro Championships Round 7 – Race Report and Results

by adminOctober 12, 2018

LEC/Gear 4’s event at Tattershall has always been seen as the clubs pièce de résistance. With a sunny Sunday to help over 140 riders, it didn’t fail to deliver once more in this, the clubs 7th race of the year. Hundreds of hours were spent in previous weeks getting the 6.5 mile course into perfect shape, and with rain falling in South Lincolnshire on the day before, the dusty fields were dampened down to make race conditions perfect. (The first ground frost of the season was also witnessed, but that’s another story)

As well as some very long and fast sections, the event has also become well known for the clubs efforts in setting up an enduro cross style section to add something a little more “interesting” to the riders. (For “interesting”, you can perhaps read “mildly challenging”, “slight panic”, and “increased heart rate” !). It’s obviously not easy to judge the “average” riders skills before an event but as always, easier but longer routes were available should a rider elect not to negotiate such things as the log and tyre crossings, rock garden, and a game of in the caravan at one end, out the other. Oh and the car to climb up and over too. (Well, a Peugeot !). These sections certainly keep the marshals on their toes as well as the riders. It also adds a bit of fun for any spectators, and seems to delight anyone with a camera too.

Any rider who slid off in what appeared to be a small cattle byre wouldn’t have smelt their sweetest on their arrival at home afterwards !!

The main scrap of the day was the tussle between Thomas Braddock and fellow Expert rider Ben Hamilton. It certainly provided close racing and quite a thrill for spectators. Thomas and Ben’s lap times were very similar but by the end, Thomas had his nose in front to win by just a few short minutes over the 3 hours. Other classes weren’t quite as close but winners from
those groups were as follows…

(Clubman): Danny Gagg
(Sportsman 2T): Connor Barnett)
(Sportsman 4T): Joshua Johnson
(Over 50’s): Nigel Ross
(Over 40’s): Alec Owen
(Trail and Classic): Kev Bartle Sr.

With only one race left in the 2018 series, 5 of the 7 classes still haven’t provided a clear winner. Whilst the Trail and Classic class was probably wrapped up a race or two ago, Simon Howden has now got himself an unassailable lead in the over 40’s group. His 3rd place on Sunday means that in theory, he could sit the last round out and still be champion.

The closest group for the class win lays with the sportsman (2T) guys. With his 2nd place on Sunday, Carl Gordon has marginally increased his lead over Rikki Harris to a mere 9 points. With 18 points given to a class winner though, there’s everything to play for in a months time. That race is on November the 4th at a new venue, Bevercoates; which is near Ollerton.

Whilst this race will still be part of the LEC 2018 series, it will be run under the AMCA banner and rules of entry will be slightly different to the norm.

Details will be posted up the club Facebook site or by contacting Louise Burford on 01507 5204040
