Big time Motocross heads to Dorset! Huge Prize money fund for “Rock it ’til Sundown” Motocross Classic

by adminJuly 21, 2018

With a whopping £1200 on the Pro win, big time Motocross is set to head to Dorset for the first time in years in the Steel Hawk Motorcycle Club promoted “Rock it ’til Sundown” Motocross Classic, which takes place at Tincleton near Dorchester on Wednesday 15th August.

The Steel Hawk club have received big backing by C.J.T Mechanical Engineering Services Ltd who have come on board as title sponsor of the event and in doing so have brought with them a big prize purse, which covers the daytime adult racing, the Minibikes. and the evening Pro racing which every Adult racer has a chance to qualify for.

C.J.T boss – Jason Lewis – is a former British MX championship contender and formidable racer in the South West area throughout the 80’s and 90’s. After some time away from the motocross scene following the death of his father Bob, Jason is keen to put something back into the sport that has been such a huge part of his and the Lewis’ family life. Jason and Steel Hawk MC co-founder Jeff Perrett go back a long way and first started racing together in 1982.

“I really threw myself into work when dad died and that and raising my family took over, I’ve missed the sport” says Jason. “Obviously I’m too old and knackered to race anymore and raising a family and growing a business takes a lot of time and effort. I went to the MXDN last year. It was the first motocross race I’d been too in years and I got the bug back and bumped into so many old faces and friends there. Jeff being one of them, we started chatting and he told me about his idea to run a summer evening event like we used to race at Matchams back in the day. In an instant I said ‘I’m in!’ and so here we are. I’m excited to be involved and looking forward to working with Jeff, Julie and Paul in growing the event for many years to come.”

Jeff is equally pumped on having his old mate involved but more so the gesture and what it means to have the pros racing for the ‘Bob Lewis Trophy’ as he explains.

“Me and Stoop (Jason) go back a long way. I call him Stoop by the way because of an unbelievable dance move he did in a night club in South Wales! We met the real Phil Mitchell that night and what a night it was!! He was one of my first genuine mates on the national scene. Mainly because I was fascinated with his Welsh accent as a kid, but even more so with his Dad’s! Bob was a real character. As genuine as they come. He’d talk to anyone without any heirs and graces and treat everyone the same, he would literally help anyone. The Lewis clan boarded on an institution really. We had so many laughs and good times. Some hard fought races too but we always got on no matter what. Jason and his family epitomise what I remember motocross being. I think that vibe has been lost a little bit so it gives me great pleasure knowing that those pro races will be fighting for the ‘Bob Lewis Trophy’ and leaving it all out on the track and racing with the right spirit. The money that Jason has put on offer through C.J.T will also make it a race worth watching! I’m genuinely thankful that he’s got involved, regardless of the huge investment he has put into our event. It’s good to have the old dog back!”
